I am Malo Jan, a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at the Center for European Studies and Comparative Politics at Sciences Po Paris, under the supervision of Emiliano Grossman. I hold a research master’s degree in Political Science from Sciences Po Paris, where I wrote my master’s thesis on French MPs’ responses to climate change.
My primary research interests lie in political parties and climate politics. My dissertation examines political polarization around climate change in Western Europe. Specifically, I analyze why party competition on climate change has shifted over the past decade, focusing on the role of radical right parties in this process and how their growing opposition is shaping other parties’ rhetoric on climate change. I am also interested in how elite rhetoric and behavior on climate issues, influence public attitudes toward climate policies and voting behavior. Beyond climate politics, my research engages more broadly with questions of party competition, particularly how parties use social media to communicate with citizens and mobilize electoral support. My research has been published or will soon be published in journals such as American Political Science Review and Party Politics, Global Environmental Politics, and Revue Française de Science Politique.
Since beginning my master’s degree, I have developed a strong interest in computational social science. I apply these methods in my research to collect online data and to develop new measures of political concepts using large text corpora. In addition, I employ traditional quantitative methods, such as survey data analysis, and have contributed to several projects involving the harmonization of existing survey data and the creation of new datasets. I also teach these methods at Sciences Po Paris.
